Kelso-Longview Washington Pizza
My girlfriend and I have discovered this terrific Pizza Restaurant in Kelso WA. The name of this Restaurant is Saviano’s Pizzeria. It is located in Kelso WA, a little ways down from the Highlander Bowl in the same strip mall.
They have this Garlic Chicken pizza that is out of this world. It is made with a white sauce and has a hint of apricot in it. Sounds strange but I was fore warned by relatives to try it and I would be hooked. I was. I also tried the Venetian. It is your basic Italian pizza, but it is not greasy like some other pizzas I have tried.
This pizza is definitely up scale. It costs a little more than your run of the house Pizza, but the quality is outstanding. The service is great, and the atmosphere is quiet. Micro brews are on tap! They also make a Panini sandwich that is good. I personally recommend this Pizza Restaurant and hope to include them in the Business Directory, LongviewBiz.com.If you are tired of the same old American style pizza, give Saviano’s traditional Italian Pizza a try, you wont be disappointed.
Here is a little bit of Pizza History that I found interesting while surfing the Web. Pizza is a baked pie with a origin of coarse coming from Italy. The word Pizza comes from a old Italian word meaning point, which became the Italian word Pizzacare which ended up meaning to pick or pluck. In one of its many forms and configurations it has been a staple of the Italian diet since the stone age. The earliest form of Pizza was a very crude bread that was baked on stones. After the bread was baked or cooked it was seasoned and was used to sop up gravies.
1. 1522 Tomatoes were brought back to Europe from Peru. At first they were believed to be poisonous, but the people of Naples started to add Tomatoes to their bread dough, this was the first simple Pizza. At that time the Tavern of Cerrigloi was a hangout for the soldiers from Spain. It is said they would line up to get and feast on the specialty of the house, Pizza.
2. 1889 Umberto, the king of Italy, and his wife Queen of Italy, Queen Margherita di Savoia, while on holiday in Naples called the famous Pizza Chef Raffaele Esposito to taste his creations. History says he made three Pizza’s for them and she liked one so well Raffaele dedicated it to her. It was a Pizza made with Pizza Dough, covered with Mozzarella, Basil, and Tomatoes. It was called Pizza Margherita. Saviano’s Pizzaria in Kelso Washington serves this very pizza to this day!!
